Character Design -
Cuphead

What if Cuphead had another DLC, with another playeable character to match? Follow Martina and the Copichuelos in her quest to free the lower and forgotten parts of Inkwell from the Devil's reign of terror.

Summary

At university, we were assigned to make a character design document. In this case, we decided to do it about Cuphead, inspired by its already existing Chalice DLC. That's how we created Martina, the Martini glass. We didn't want her appearing out of the blue, so we imagined her into de base game too, similar to how Chalice is an already existing character before her DLC was introduced.

We designed her personality, backstory, relationship with other characters and her moveset, trying to make her balanced and fair among the other playable characters.

Tools

The doc was made in Word.

Martina's sketch was made traditionally.

Team

Miriam Lopez, Álvaro Segura.

My role

We both designed Martina's overall concept and moveset.

I took care of writing the lore side of the design. Martina's backstory, her integration in base game, her personality and visual design, as well as her sketch.

Personal notes

I loved getting to analyze Cuphead as a whole, alongside the DLC and being able to come up with a character that could fit in between the already existing ones. Making Martina's sketch was also a great exercise and it came out exactly how we imagined her.
